OH FAMILY Parent Guide 13 · Explore & Experience

A family experience can be a museum visit, an afternoon at a park, a game night, or cooking something new together. What fits depends on the people taking part, their interests, budget, abilities, and time.

Exploring Family Experiences Across Ages is a free, two-page guide that helps families consider their options without ranking activities or suggesting that every family needs the same experiences.

What the guide covers

Compare six broad kinds of experiences: museums and learning places; outdoors, nature and animals; attractions and entertainment; arts and culture; movement and recreation; and everyday experiences at home and in the community.

Age ranges are reference points, not rules. The guide separates developmental possibilities from provider rules and individual safety and access needs. It also prompts families to consider costs, transportation, weather, sensory needs, restrooms, food, and breaks.

Use the planning worksheet

The second page provides space to note who is coming, what interests each person, ideas to compare, questions to ask a venue, and a backup plan. Print the worksheet and keep it for your own use. OH FAMILY does not collect what you write.

Explore the companion publication

For more detail, the companion publication profiles 33 types of experiences and includes comparison tools, a sensory-friendly index, and a situation index.

Sources and context

The two-page guide identifies references from the American Academy of Pediatrics, CDC, HealthyChildren.org, and Museums for All. Its research notes distinguish general evidence from claims about particular outings. No experience guarantees better grades, closer relationships, or less stress.

This guide offers general educational information. It does not recommend, rank, or endorse a venue or activity and is not medical, legal, or financial advice. Costs, rules, and availability change; confirm current details with the venue.
